For Japan With Love-A Blogger’s Day of Silence

Over the last week we’ve seen the devastation of the 9.0 earthquake that caused a massive tsunami when it hit Japan. The photos and video are heart wrenching. Thousands of homes were destroyed, tens of thousands of people are struggling in unfathomable conditions with extremely limited food, water and shelter.

I can only imagine the magnitude of the devastation…and so many little things that you might not even think about.  Entire neighborhoods were literally washed away leaving not even a piece of clothing to be found.  Even if someone’s home was intact, they were probably without power so they had no way to store food that needed refrigeration.  Virtually all of the drinking water was contaminated by the tsunami and with so many people displaced, emergency shelters are overflowing.  The nuclear power plants only added another layer to the struggles for much needed energy and safety.

With all the troubling news, it’s encouraging to know that many people are doing what they can to help.  Even those in the blogging community who have the ability to touch so many hearts each day. Two of these incredible bloggers are Lydia of Ever Ours and Lucy of Utterly Engaged. Together they have created For Japan With Love a blogging fundraiser for Japan’s earthquake and tsunami relief.

All the donations to For Japan With Love will go to the non-profit organization, ShelterBox, which provides emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies for families around the world who are affected by disasters at the time when they need it the most. Each large green ShelterBox is tailored to each specific disaster, but typically contains a disaster relief tent for an extended family, blankets, water storage and purification equipment, cooking utensils, a stove, a basic tool kit, a children’s activity pack and other vital items. A whole box costs $1,000 (US).

Join us this Friday March 18th in the Bloggers’ Day of Silence.  And please say a prayer for the people of Japan and for those who are coming to their aid.

My blog will be silent to honor and respect those in Japan who desperately need our help.

Please click the image above and make a donation. Every dollar you can spare will make a difference.

Thank you.
