Snow on Lake Erie

This is a pic of a beach on the shores of Lake Erie very close to where I grew up in Vermilion, Ohio. We used to call this Tiki Beach. I have no idea why. My long-time friend, Scott took this recently when he went home to visit his dad. Scott grew up in a home overlooking the lake. How cool is that!

It’s so bizarre to think that folks back there are getting snowstorms when we hit 99 degrees this week in Phoenix! I’ve been wearing my summery capris and sandals all weekend and we actually turned on the air conditioner yesterday.

I often miss the seasons and yes, even the winter. I remember as a kid walking out on the frozen lake. It was awesome! Of course, I probably wouldn’t do much of that now, but would certainly enjoy looking out at it from beside a warm fireplace.

  1. I was never brave (stupid) enough to drive out on the lake. Besides we moved away just before I turned 16. We had no problems with walking since it was probably several feet deep everywhere. One winter there were these huge piles of broken up ice about a 500 yards or more offshore that we climbed on. We could hardly see the shoreline we were so far out. It was awesome!

  3. I miss winters with snow too. I grew up in the NC mountains with several snows a year and now I live in the NC foothills where it rarely snows. I have never walked on a frozen lake or seen one. Thanks for sharing the picture and the story. Enjoy your warm weather… spring is here!

  5. Weirds me out to see people drive across a frozen lake! I’m not sure I could walk across one, let alone drive a car across a lake! Yikes!Such a cool picture for you to reflect back on.
